Chicago boasts some of the most famous architecture in the world. It has plenty of cultural locations, too, that make it one of the most popular cities to visit in the United States. Do you know that there are a lot of things to do in the Chicago suburbs that your entire family can enjoy? Yes, including your kids! Below are some family activities you can try on your next summer vacation in Windy City!
1. Enjoy the Lincoln Park Area
This area is known as every nature lover’s dream because of its lushly landscaped grounds, historic spots, and North Shore beach. Besides such eye-pleasing treats, I recommend Lincoln Park Zoo as one of the top things to do in the Chicago suburbs. Your kids will love to see the different animals, plus, it’s free! Continue your day by enjoying a meal at Smallchevel and some dessert at Jeni’s ice cream. In the Lincoln Park area, you can plan an entire day of family activities!
2. Have a Family Fun Picnic in Millenium Park
The Millenium Park is located in the heart of the city. It makes for a fantastic picnic spot or simply a place to stroll around.
3. Feed Your Children’s Curiosity in Museums
Keep it fun and educational for your kids by visiting child-friendly museums. One of my favorites is the Field and Science Museum! You can also add exploring art museums, planetariums, and aquariums to your list of things to do in the Chicago suburbs.
4. Take Everyone on a Yummy Treat
A Chicago family never misses out on the opportunity for a doughnut feast! Savor this ohhh so good snack on your family fun day. Your kids will surely appreciate you for it! I recommend getting yours at the Doughnut Vault, Do-rite, and Stan’s Donuts.
5. Go Shopping at the Watertower
Yes. You heard that right! You can give in to temptation and enjoy some retail therapy with everyone at Watertower. There’s so much on offer here, including shops for your little ones too. Let them get excited at the American Girl Store and the Lego store!
6. Play at Navy Pier
There’s plenty of space for fun at Navy Pier-Chicago’s Waterfront destination. Let your kids play or visit the Children’s Museum. There’s a wide variety of restaurants you can dine in as well as lots of exciting events and public programs to attend.
7. Create Your Own Unique Pizza Tour
Every Chicago family considers deep-dish pizza to be Chicago’s most iconic meal. Take your kids on a pizza tour by trying two of the most famous pizza places, Pequod’s Pizza and Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria. Both you and your kids will love them!
8. Stroll Along Chicago’s Nature Walk
If you want a simpler choice for things to do in the Chicago suburbs, you can opt for a nature walk. Stroll around and have fun with nature and squeeze in a little bit of exercise too!
9. Get Artsy with the Kids
Spend time with your kids in art classes that will enjoyably build their skills and nurture their love for creativity, as well as give you some precious family bonding time.
